Nicki Minaj is coming to the big screen. How exciting! Miss Minaj will have her own comedy series called “Nicki” which will portray her life growing up in Queens. The series will be airing next year ,January 12, on ABC. The name of the show will most likely be changed to “Freeform.”
Ariana Neal will play the lead role of Nicki Minaj. Neal is no stranger to the big screen. She played Tatiana, Oscar Grant’s daughter in “Fruitvale Station.” That was just a minor role. Having the chance to play Nicki Minaj on a TV series is a big deal. Nicki left a comment on finding her lead actor via Instagram.
“I literally cried watching her taped audition. I demanded to meet her! Sat in a room with her teaching her how to rap by doing a beat on the table & forcing her to stay on beat! Lol. Then pulled out all the attitude she had in her lil body. Haha! She’s tough! And so sweet & cute. #ArianaNeal #LilNicki Welcome to the family lil lady bug!”
Nicki also posted the rest of the cast. Whoopi Goldberg will be on the show playing Miss Martha who is the family’s neighbor. Selita Ebanks will be playing Grace, Minaj’s mother. Wesley Jonathan be playing Vincent, Minaj’s father and lastly, McCarrie McCausland will portray Minaj’s older brother, Jaylen. Nicki is the executive producer on the show and will make a few guest appearances. We can’t wait to see this one.
