When 2014 was a rather dull year for hip-hop’s legacy, 2015 has seen immense success and it’s set to spill over in 2016. Ok so there are 74 songs taken from major motion pictures this year that are being considered for Best Original Song for the Oscars. Among those 74 songs are:
Meek Mill & Jhene Aiko’s “Fighting Stronger” from the movie Creed. Aiko also has another potential song to win with her track with Childish Gambino & Vince Staples “Waiting For My Moment” also from the Creed movie soundtrack.
Eminem is in the running for his “Phenomenal” song from the movie Southpaw.
Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth’s record-breaking melody “See You Again” from Furious 7 is also in the running with the most probable chance of being nominated.
Also Nick Cannon made the list with the song “Pray 4 My City” from the Chi-raq picture.
Three rap songs have won Oscars for Best Original Song in the past, including last year with Common & John Legend’s touching “Glory” record from the Selma movie, in 2005 Three Six Mafia won the award for Hustle & Flow ‘s track “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp”, and Eminem was the first hip-hop artist to win the award in 2002 with his the classic “Lose Yourself” from his 8 Mile movie.
