T.I.

A&E networks is planning to remake the classic series Roots in 2016. According to reports, the network has already broken ground and has begun production in Louisiana. Rapper T.I. and Actor Mekhi Phifer have already been casted for the reboot.

So far we know, T.I. has been casted to play, “a slave named Cyrus who joins the Union Army to fight for freedom against the Confederates.” While, Mekhi Phifer will play another slave named, Jerusalem. Other big names appearing in this film, include Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose and Laurence Fishburne.

The Roots remake will be directed by Mario Van Peebles, Phillip Noyce, Thomas Carter and Bruce Beresford while Questlove serves as executive music producer. No word about exactly when the series will appear on A&E, however we do know it will spilt into four-parts that will air consecutively each night.
