The legendary Stevie Wonder will be getting his very own street in Detroit, named after him! Now that’s pretty awesome, read more after the jump to find out the story behind it.

The Detroit City Council has just recently approved the request to have a street in their city renamed and changed to the one and only Stevie Wonder’s name. This request was approved just days ago and since then the hashtag #Street4Stevie was created on Instagram and twitter. The hashtag has shown a huge amount of support from Wonder fans who see what an amazing change is about to take place.
Sharon DuMas who is the chairperson of the Stevie Wonder Tribute Committee told Rolling Stone that the committee feels
“it’s a fitting time to honor Stevie with a visible landmark between the heart of the city and the business and entertainment districts closer to downtown,”
continuing,
“With the repopulation of the city, and with the passing of so many years since the Motown era, we don’t want anyone forgetting how important people like Stevie have been to Detroit’s history.”
According to Rolling Out the committee is looking to have the street in the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Woodward Avenue and as of right now the unveiling will be held in May 2016 around Wonder’s 66th birthday.
At that time the Motown legend will also be getting honored with a Living Legend Tribute Concert, created by the Stevie Wonder Tribute Committee.
