Will Grier of the Florida Gators was assigned a one-year suspension after testing positive for drug enhancement substances in early October.
After filing an appeal with the NCAA, Grier has been denied and must serve the full one-year suspension that would set his return to the field in October 2016.
Grier’s legal team sat on the phone with Florida’s athletic program reps and the NCAA to fight for their client’s right to play.
The freshman Gator was suspended after taking what he says were over the counter pills that were not filtered through and approved by Florida trainers.
According to ESPN, his absence has not much affected the team’s record, but Grier’s performance acted as a fresh face for the Gators’ offensive core.
Though, if what he says is true, it would not have been through an act of malice or sneakiness that Grier failed the performance drug test, the NCAA has denied Grier’s appeal and leave him to sit out until Florida’s matchup with Missouri on October 15, 2016.
Grier put up numbers that the Gators had not seen since the Tebow era in 2009 and has proven to have the potential to carry the team to a successful season.
With the Gators flourishing without Grier, it must be a concern as to whether or not his spot will be available to him once the suspension is over.
