Recently, the New York Giants have struggled to maintain a healthy roster, especially after losing two of their best, Jason Pierre-Paul and Victor Cruz. With both players out, the Giants have made some changes and have felt the consequences, falling just shy of multiple victories that would put their record at 7-1.

Instead, the Giants are 4-4 and are welcoming the return of both key players.

Following a fourth of July firework accident, JPP worked to prove his value after losing two fingers and part of his thumb. It was unlikely that the defensive end would return, but after watching his team scrap for wins, JPP announced that he would, in fact, return to play for the Giants during this 2015 season.

JPP posted videos of his workouts and training sessions, implying very clearly that he was working hard to get into better shape. After multiple meetings with team medics, Pierre-Paul and the Giants were able to reach an agreement that would allow his to play out the rest of the season.

Yesterday, the Giants activated Pierre-Paul who will make his debut against the Buccaneers.

Victor Cruz suffered a season ending injury last October when he tore his patellar tendon in an early season matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Cruz was expected to return by this year’s preseason and was participating in team drills when he experienced a strained calf muscle. The strain has kept the young receiver off of the field since, but Cruz recently stated that he expected to play after the bye.

Cruz made his explosive NFL debut in 2011 and helped lead the team to a Super Bowl title. Since nursing his own injuries, the NJ native has served as a leader and mentor for the younger receivers, including Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle. Reuniting Cruz with his receiving core would present a major threat to opposing defenses and give the Giants a huge offensive advantage.

By losing both JPP and Cruz, the Giants took a major blow on both sides of the ball. Having both leaders back would be crucial to the remainder of the Giants season who are currently holding the No. 1 spot in the NFC East by the skin of their teeth.
