Racism has made its way back to the big screen yet again SMH. Apparently, you can’t even go to Applebees and speak another language. If you do, just know that you might get your face smashed in with a beer glass like Asthma Mohamed Jama. Terrible !
Last Friday, Jama and her family were in Applebees enjoying themselves. Jama, who is originally from Kenya started to speak in her language, Swahili. Jodi Burchard-Risch and her husband where sitting close to Jama when Burchard got offended because Jama was not speaking english or “American” as Jama’s friend reported. The Applebees manager tried to escort Burchard out but did not succeed. She took her beer mug and smashed it right against Jama’s face. Terrible isn’t it?
The couple then tried to escape but the manager of Applebees was not trying to hear that. He followed them and got the woman arrested. The attack busted Jama’s lip. She needed 17 stitches to her face. Her family has set up a GoFund me asking for her for Jama’s medical expenses. Mama released a statement saying,
“I live in America. I can speak English but we prefer to speak our own language if it bothers you I’m sorry. Emotionally, that has destroyed me to be entirely honest.”
Burchard has been charged with third degree assault. Minnesota’s Council on American-Islamic Relations is trying to get the assault to be charged as a hate crime.
