Halloween is usually so much fun. It is one of the few holidays that both kids and adults are able to fully enjoy. Streets and sidewalks are filled with trick-or-treaters and their parents following closely behind. People in creepy masks sneak up to scare you, and most times, they do succeed!
Yesterday, it was not a scary mask that sent everyone running for the hills, but a car that jumped a sidewalk and quickly turned some Halloween fun into a tragedy.
It has not been confirmed as to whether or not the driver of the black Dodge Charger had been drinking when his car jumped out of control and struck a sidewalk full of people, yesterday evening. Locals and passersby scrambled to help as there was blood everywhere and people in dire need of help.
One witness told reporters,
“I saw a torso on the sidewalk. I didn’t know if it was a Halloween dummy or a real person. I just grabbed a whole bunch of towels and ran outside.”
Victims ranged from the ages of 3 to 65, including a 10-year old girl and her grandfather who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The 3-year old toddler is in very critical conditions.
Investigators flooded the scene to pin point what caused the tragic accident, and so far, no charges have been filed against the driver, who was also taken to the hospital with physical damages.
After things settled down and the neighborhood was left quiet, neighbors gathered around and held a candle light vigil in honor of the victims.
Anne Crecco, a local, said,
“This is a sad situation, especially today, it’s Halloween. It’s going to affect a lot, something like this has never happened here. Everyone’s going to remember when they pass by.”
