Rihanna’s publisict… opps.. I meant EX-Publicist, made a public apology to the Carter’s for starting the false rumor, that Jay-Z and Rihanna had a secret love affair going on. Who would want to make up something like that. Apparently Jonathan Hay.
“I apologized to her … this whole thing is very awkward.”
The apology on “Inside Edition” was given after “The Daily News” got their hands on a tell-all on “Becoming Beyonce. The tell all was written by celebrity biographer J.Randy Taraborelli. He mentioned in his tell all, a rumor about Rihanna messing around with Jay-Z in order to get her single “Pon de Replay” out and promoted.
Hay stated,
“The pr stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ‘Pon de Replay.’”It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.”
He went on to say seeing Beyonce on the cover of the tell all book made him really sick because he knew that people were buying the book just to read a made up story. He claims he just wanted to “put the rumor to rest.”
At the time that “Pon de Replay” came out, Rihanna was only 17. Jay-z’s main concern with the rumor was that Rihanna was a minor at the time. So everyone who was believing this lie may thing Jay was a rapist, which he isn’t! (but you know how people are.)
Hay departed from being Rihanna’s publicist to work on his music career. He has a project that has recently been uploaded to Tidal called “When World’s Collide,” which is owned by Jay-Z and Beyonce. HA !
