Many people aren’t too fond with Anthony Mackie right now, in fact, many are turn their heads to the side in completely “huh?” face with confusion. Coming fresh off his role as The Falcon in Marvel’s Captain America series, Mackie “dreamed of playing” the character, however Chadwick Boseman was cast in the titular role for a five-picture deal. The film “Black Panther” will have Marvel’s first African American Superhero and Mackie says he has no problem with a white director being the captain of this movie’s ship.
Marvel Studios is working on releasing a movie for the famous comic book that was popular in the early 1960s, Black Panther. Having it’s first African American star, Marvel is opening more and more doors for African American entertainers with this film being set to hit theaters February 2018, but something has been holding Marvel back from starting production. There has been a debate on whether the film should have a black director or not. Anthony Mackie was aware of the debacle surfaced around the film’s production and gave his outlook on it all to The Daily Beast saying:
As a director your job is to tell a story. You know, they didn’t get a horse to direct ‘Seabiscuit’! The thing is I don’t think the race of the director has to do with their ability to tell a story I think it’s all about the director’s ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice.
Originally, the “Selma” director, Ava DuVernay and director of “Fruitvale Station” Ryan Coogler, were in the debacle for the director’s position for the film, but back in July, DuVernay passed on the occasion so the position is still up in the air. Anthony Mackie seems like what he’s saying is perfectly fine, he’s more focused on the merit of the person for the job as oppose to the color of their skin. What’s your thoughts?
