I’m not going to do it. You’re not going to make me do it. Those were probably the words Eddie Murphy used when he declined his return to Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary show. Producers – and I take it, writers as well – wanted the comedian to portray Bill Cosby during the 40th. however, Murphy decided against it. During an interview with The Washington Post, Murphy admits while sketch on Cosby was a funny one, he said he would not perform it due to timing – this was when ladies were coming from the woods to point out Cosby as the man who sexually assaulted them.
“I was like, ‘Hey, I’m coming back to SNL for the anniversary, I’m not turning my moment on the show into this other thing.'”
He adds, there were too many people involved and he was not willing to use their emotional pain for a laugh. “There’s nothing funny about it. If you get up there and you crack jokes about him, you’re just hurting people. You’re hurting him. You’re hurting his accusers,” he says.

I’m sure many commend Murphy (especially Cosby) for his bravery, but one in particular is Norm MacDonald, the writer of the sketch.
“He will not kick a man when he is down. Eddie Murphy, I realize, is not like the rest of us. Eddie does not need the laughs,” he said.
