Just before the 2015 VMAs in August, Nicki Minaj spoke out about the “Video Of The Year” category, upset that she was snubbed for “Anaconda” and feeling like it was a racial issue. Taylor Swift, who was previously cool with Nicki, took it as a personal jab since she was nominated in the category, and responded,
“@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
Words were exchanged and they eventually hashed it out, even leading to a performance together at the VMAs later that month. In a new interview, Taylor was asked about the brief spat, and though was firm that she didn’t want to get into it, she did add what she learned from the situation.

“I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone’s management, I get their number and I text them. It’s an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015.”
