Through an initiative launched by Vice President Joe Bidden in 2012, the Jewish Federations of North America, which consists of 150,000 Holocaust survivors living below the poverty rate, will receive $12 million to span over the course of five years – let’s do the math; on average, one individual will receive $16,000 a year.
While the almost $2.5 million a year will not be finances placed in the peoples’ hands, it “will support $4.1 million in programming annually for organizations that help Holocaust survivors,” the JFNA said. In addition, the funds will be used to advance “innovations in person-centered, trauma-informed supportive services for Holocaust survivors.”
While the Jewish community suffered a great genocide during World War II, this initiative leave many questions to other racial groups that also suffered genocide, but for a longer duration.

To name a few of the most recent reparations worthy incidents in America [via] Rolling Out:
– The bombing and burning of “Black Wall Street” in Tulsa, Oklahoma 1921
– The burning and lynching of Rosewood, FL 1923
– Moore’s Ford Bridge Massacre 1947
– Church burnings that took place from 1954-2015
– Illegal and unconstitutional arrests of Blacks during the Civil Rights movement
– Jim Crow laws enacted at the state and local levels and ignored at the federal level
– The implications of the CIA linked crack epidemic in Black communities
– Hurricane Katrina victims living below the poverty line
There is an understanding as to why this initiative was set into place, however, if the additional monies are there, why can’t they be spilt amongst the NATION living below the poverty line; even if that means for a shorter span, say 2 1/2 years? I’m thinking Obama will cause quite a stir with this one.
