Juvenile illiteracy has been taking its toll on American communities for a long time and Pharrell is stepping in to make a difference. The “Frontin” singer has decided to team up with Penguin Youth Publishers and non-profit literacy organization Firstbook to donate over 50,000 books to underprivileged children nationwide. Hit the jump to see the details.
Utilizing the hashtag #ReadHHappy, Penguin Youth Publishers posted on Twitter urging its followers to explain why reading is essential to their lives. The hashtag is very lucrative in itself with a donation being made with every tweet. Pharrell also responded with the hashtag, saying, “Every child on this planet deserves to experience the joy of reading.”
P also told the world he would try his hand at being an author, announcing that he would be writing a children’s book entitled “Happy”, derived from the children’s cinematic trilogy.
Pharrell’s international hit has been ubiquitous since its release last summer, being played on radios hundreds of times a day all over the world. The book speaks on the joy of life and childhood and is expected to be followed by three more.
Happy will be available electronically and in stores October 5, 2015.
