It’s been a lifelong dream of Smith’s to work on a song for the popular Bond films. Now that the dream is coming to – thanks to an email sent to his agent – Smith wastes no time with creating a masterpiece. In an interview with NPR, the British crooner said that he and his collaborator, Jimmy Napes, wrote “Writings on the Wall” in less than half an hour.

While many are questioning Smith for leaving out the obvious – a reference to James Bond or the film – he says there is much 007 throughout the track. He said that he tried to put himself in the shoes of the Secret Service Agent.
“My music is a diary and it’s a recap of my life, and I wanted to bring that kind of honesty,” Smith says to NPR’s Morning Edition. “In the lyrics — ‘How do I live, how do I breathe? / When you’re not here I’m suffocating’ — I wanted a touch of vulnerability from Bond, where you see into his heart a little bit.”
Hmm, I doubt this is the first time a reference in a soundtrack song is missing. Go ‘head Smith.
