Police are investigating the death of a 20-month-old baby girl after she was found unresponsive by her mother when she would not wake up from her nap. The baby’s eight-year-old brother has come forward saying he saw her drinking from a water bottle that police have learned contained methadone.

According to county medical examiner reports, the victim’s mother poured the Methadone into a water bottle she left in her van while she took one of her sons into his doctors appointment. The 20-month-old was left in the van under the supervision of her eight-year-old brother who told officials he saw her drinking from a water bottle.
The mom told investigators that the water bottle contained methadone which she has been taking for several years following a heroin addiction. Autopsy reports show no bodily trauma to the baby and her death has been ruled an accident.
Methadone is pain reliever used to drug addictions as part of drug addiction detoxification programs. It reduces withdrawal symptoms in people addicted to heroin or other narcotic drugs without causing the “high” associated with the drug addiction.
