Nick Minaj has been teasing her fans on Twitter about an upcoming surprise and the Barbz were becoming anxious. Tuesday the news broke and the ABC Family network revealed Nicki will be executive producing and starring in a new series. The series will be based on the rap queen’s life growing up in Queens, New York.

The project remains untitled but will be shooting the pilot in Queens later this year. ABC Family’s Karey Burke released a statement praising Minaj for her talent. She said, “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” adding, “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Nicki Minaj opened up about her involvement int the series saying, “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” she added, “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
The script, written by Kate Angelo, screenwriter for Sex Tape and will focus on Nicki Minaj’s life after she was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago and then moved with her family to Queens in the 90s. The series will channel her immigrant family and the what lead to her rise to being an international superstar.
