After quite a successful 5-week run that attracted over 4,000 people a day, Banksy has officially closed the doors on his Dismaland amusement park of sorts in the UK.
The park was basically a display of Banksy’s crazy art with a few rides scattered in – a grim take on Walt Disney’s much more cheerful theme park, Disneyland. I’m so bitter that I wasn’t able to see this in person, but I got excited when I read they’ll be moving the exhibit to Calais, France. “Another chance,” I thought. But then I read on…and found that it won’t be open to the public.
“Coming soon… Dismaland Calais,” a statement on their site reads. “All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters. No online tickets will be available.”
So, there’s that. At least they will be helping those in need!
