Victor Cruz made his debut as a New York Giant in 2011, salsa dancing in end zones across the nation. But following his most recent calf injury, will Cruz be making his return in Buffalo?
No, the salsa-dancing sensation is not going anywhere! After suffering a torn patella tendon in 2014, the wide receiver has yet to hit the field this season.
“The Return” is now being held up by a calf injury that Cruz has been nursing since the 2015 preseason, but sources say that Cruz might be cleared to play against the Buffalo Bills. While Odell Beckham Jr. has been holding down the position of X (slot) and Z (wideout), Cruz’s return would make New York’s offense a lethal threat.
Cruz’s comeback would ideally put Odell outside and Cruz in the slot, leaving receiver Reuben Randle on the opposite side in a one-on-one situation. Defenses would then have to decide whether or not to double team the long pass to OBJ or cover the short route by Cruz. With both receivers known for their explosive play-making ability, the duo would give defensive coordinators a run for their money.
The Giants offense has not seen a decent tight-end since the Jeremy Shockey era ended post-Super Bowl in 2007. With Larry Donnell as a main threat and Daniel Fells following quickly behind, offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo is working to utilize the pair and give QB, Eli Manning more downfield options. The tight ends, standing tall at 6’6 and 6’4, will have a good 4-6 inches and 40-60 lbs. on your average safety, leaving the scenario as an obvious mismatch.
Cruz’s 2015 season debut would fulfill the Giants’s dynamic ability, which should result in a successful season for the New York team.
The Bills will host the Giants on Sunday, October 4th at 1:00 p.m..
