DeAndre Jordan’s free agency debacle was the talk of the summer and apparently the two teams aren’t done trading quips just yet. Jordan had agreed to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks but later backed out and re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers after they literally travelled to his home and staged a sit in. Jordan later apologized to Mavericks owner Mark Cuban for reneging on their deal but Cuban didn’t accept the apology and apparently he’s still bitter as he and Clippers coach and president of basketball operations, Doc Rivers continue to go in on each other.
On Collin Cowherd’s new radio show on Fox Sports, Doc Rivers had been on recently and said he thought Cuban handled the situation poorly, and when Cuban was on he fired back (hat tip Dan Woike at the Orange County Register).
“It shows what someone will do when their entire future is vanishing in front of them, and that’s what Doc did. I give him credit for it. His professional life was over if he didn’t get DJ. So his back was against the wall, and he did what he needed to do. More power to him. But sometimes the deals you don’t do are the best ones. But we’ll see.”
Doc Rivers is one of the most respected coaches in the league and his professional life surely wouldn’t have been over if Jordan indeed left but it would’ve suffered a bit.
