FX’s hit show The League is going into its seventh and final season – and it’s lucky there are, as the people might have gotten their star the F out of here for his new revelation.
Taking to Twitter today, Steve Rannazzisi admitted the story he’s long told about escaping the 9/11 attacks while working for Merrill Lynch on the 54th floor of the south tower in 2011 was completely fabricated.
“I was in Manhattan, but working in a building in midtown,” Steve admitted. “I was not at the Trade Center on that day.”

Though he offered up his sincerest of apologies, Steve has not given a direct reason as to his reasoning, other than being an “immature young man.” Of course the backlash has been swift and immediate, with SNL’s Pete Davidson being one of the first to blast him – as he actually lost his firefighter father that day.
Do you think he should be punished for having told the lie so many years ago, or should we let the past be the past? As actress Katie Aselton (who plays his wife on The League) noted, what he did was wrong, but “he’s not running for office or raising your kids. #perspective.”
The League has not released a statement, but Buffalo Wild Wings has, who recently made Steve the face of their NFL ad campaign:
“We are disappointed to learn of Steve’s misrepresentations regarding the events of September 11, 2001.”
Oh, and Steve’s Comedy Central special Breaking Dad will air on Saturday as well – could this all be for publicity? Hmm! Check out all the tweets in the gallery, and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
