Million dollar lawsuits, suicides and more have shone a bright light on CTE and the effects of head trauma sustained from playing football, more specifically in the NFL. In “Concussion”, Will Smith takes the NFL head on (pun intended), playing the role of Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic pathologist and neuropathologist who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy in football players who got hit in the head over and over again.
In the clip, he says repetitive “head trauma chokes the brain.”
Omalu was one of the founding members of the Brain Injury Research Institute in 2002. He conducted the autopsy of Pittsburgh Steelers center Mike Webster, played by David Morse in the film, which led to this discovery.
I posted the trailer from my Twitter account and was overwhelmed by the response. The interest is undeniable.
This trailer looks goooood. Can’t wait. I wonder how the NFL will respond https://t.co/mEtgbbbvuv
