24 year old Jamycheal Mitchell of Portsmouth, VA was found in his jail cell.

Mitchell served four months in jail without bail for allegedly stealing $5 worth of groceries from a 7-Eleven which was a zebra cake, mountain dew & a snickers bar. He was being held on misdemeanor charges of petty larceny and trespassing. Mitchell was supposed to be moved to a mental health facility because he was deemed not competent to stand trail but the back and forth conversations between both facilities caused him to stay in jail longer. There is no real reason why he wasn’t given bail.

According to authorities, Mitchell was found dead on the floor of his cell by the guards last Wednesday. It was known that the young man suffered from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and his family stated that he refused to take his medication or even eat while he was locked up. His aunt Roxanne Adams said, “He was just deteriorating so fast. His body failed… it’s extraordinary. The person I saw deceased was not even the same person.”

An autopsy will be conducted but officials believe it was from natural causes. “As of right not it is deemed ‘natural causes’, a statement from Natasha Perry who is the master jail officer at the Hampton Roads regional jail in Portsmouth. She also stated that there were no obvious signs of injury on his body.
