A photo made the rounds online Wednesday, after Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were gunned down during a live broadcast by disgruntled former WDBJ reporter Vester Lee Flanagan. While Flanagan was still at large, at least half a dozen news websites published this photo and claimed that the man seated between Alison Parker and Chris Hurst was Flanagan. Which it is NOT! The man in the photo is Sherman Lea Jr. Hit the jump for all the details.
On April 26, Sherman Lea Jr. tweeted a photo taken at Benny Marconi’s, a pizzeria in Roanoke, Virginia. He is seated between two journalists from WDBJ, Alison Parker and Chris Hurst. While Flanagan was still at large, at least half a dozen news websites published the pizza parlor photo and claimed that the man seated between Alison Parker and Chris Hurst was Flanagan. Sherman Lea Jr.,the executive director of New Hope Support Services was not pleased.
He Tweeted:
“Serious media mistake puts people’s lives in danger I am not Vester Lee Flanagan”
The news outlets have taken down the picture, with not even a word of an apology to Sherman Lea Jr. Talk about perpetuating a stereo type, sorry but we all don’t look alike.
