Looks like Empire‘s Cookie Lyon could be getting her very own prequel series. According to creator Lee Daniels, he thinks its a definite possibility. Nothing is in the works so far, but Daniels told Television Critics Association’s (TCA) during press tour in Beverly Hills that he’s seriously considering a spin-off that focuses on a younger version of Taraji P. Henson’s character.

Daniels told the TCA, “I think there is going to be a spin-off from Empire, without question,” he added, “There’s so much ripe story that we’ve talked about, about Cookie’s family.” Following the panel, Daniels talked to reporters and explained just what would be included in a ‘Cookie-prequel.’ He said to would focus on her upbringing,”How did she get to where she’s at right now? Let’s go back and understand her mother. Let’s go back and understand her sisters. Let’s understand the makings of her. And that I know—because I know Cookie. … I’d be like a prequel. But I don’t think we’re there quite yet. I’ve got to work on Star.”
Star is another project Daniels has been working. Thursday it was announced that the potential series will have a pilot. Although it’s not directly related to Empire, it’s also a musical drama. The series will focus on three girls, growing up poor who move to Atlanta to find fame. Daniels said, “Star is white and she’s thrown into a world of blackness,” he added, “Where Empire was based on dynasty, Star is like TLC, Dreamgirls, The Supremes—that world. It’s that world meets Good Times. It’s the making of a girl group.”
