The University of Cincinnati police officer appeared in Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas after being indicted Wednesday on one count of murder and one count of voluntary manslaughter. Ray Tensing pleaded not guilty, however if convicted of the charges he faces life in prison.
Tensing’s attorney, Stewart Matthews believes his client is being treated unfairly. He said, “He’s been crucified since this thing first happened by the whole community without knowing what the evidence is.”
However, two videos were released on Wednesday by the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office. Both videos were obtained from the body cams of Tensing and a responding officer. The video from Tensing’s cam features him shooting Sam DuBose in the head at point blank range as he reaches for the ignition of the car. The second video from the responding officer shows Tensing lying on the ground before running toward DuBose’s car but neither video features the officer being dragged as he first stated.
During he quick arraignment Judge Megan Shanahan read the two charges and set bond at $1 million.
