Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft said during the press conference that judging by the position of the gunman’s 1995 blue Lincoln Continental he was “intent on shooting and escaping.” That failed however, when police forced him back into the theater and he proceeded to shoot himself. Police also found wigs and glasses inside Houser’s motel room.
21-year-old Mayci Breaux and 33-year-old Jillian Johnson were killed when Houser shot off thirteen rounds into the theater. Nine others were injured and sent to the hospital; two have been released and one remains in critical condition.
Michael Edmonson of the Louisiana State police said, “Why did he do that? We don’t know that,” he added, “To put a motive on it is something we can’t do right now.”
