Over the weekend, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman – El Chapo meaning, Shorty – escaped the maximum security prison of Altiplano in Almoloya de Juárez, Mexico state. With days having gone by and his whereabouts unknown, the Mexican government is offering 60 million pesos, or $3.8 million in America, for information leading up to his capture.

Officials are calling the leader of the Sinaloa cartel’s escape an inside job. The reason that they have fired hree prison officials, including the prison’s director, Valentin Cardenas Lerma, and his boss, the head of Mexico’s prison system. No matter who is involved, “There will be no rest for this criminal,” said Osorio Chong.
Saying involvement by prison or state officials was “an act of treason,” Osorio Chong said 34 prison staff members were under questioning.
Chong and Attorney General Arely Gomez are the two who opened up about the $3.8 million reward.

El Chapo escaped on Saturday night, after crawling through a hole a mile-long tunnel in his prison cell. Apparently, the blueprint to the prison was an intricate part of his escape, and had taken years to become familiarized with.
