For years, hip-hop and comic book culture have combined to bring us dope creations, whether they be amazing visuals or rappers jumping into comic books themselves. Recently, Marvel decided to create one of their best ideas yet as a tribute to hip-hop’s existence by honoring the veterans and recreating their most memorable album covers. Marvel Comics is honoring hip-hop the best way they know how. Recently, the world-renown comic book publisher revealed a new collection of various covers which take on the essence of classic hip-hop album from the past 30 years from Eric B & Rakim to 50 Cent. Amongst the 11 covers, Marvel included classic characters like Spider-man, the X-Men, Ant Man, and Doctor Strange in their own adaptions of album covers from Dr. Dre, the Notorious B.I.G., De La Soul and more.
“For years, Marvel Comics and hip-hop culture have been engaged in an ongoing dialogue,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief. “Beginning this October, we will shine a spotlight on the seamless relationship between those two unique forces.”
Marvel has a history of collaborating with major hip-hop stars like Run The Jewels, Eminem, and Rae Sremmurd. Check out all 11 covers in the gallery!
