It’s been 15 years since Christopher Rios a.k.a Big Punisher passed away. Since his untimely death, Pun’s memory and spirit lived vicariously through Fat Joe and the Terror Squad and continues to thrive through his son, Chris Rivers. Recently, Rivers and his mother Liza Rios got the opportunity to speak about Pun’s legacy on The Combat Jack Show. Listen to what they had to say after the jump.
Chris Rivers and his mother Liza Rios reflected on the life and legacy of Big Pun. Combat Jack and Premium Pete invited both of them on the Combat Jack Show for a very candid interview about Pun’s life, from the first time she met Pun to his unfortunate death. Mama Rios kicked off the trip down memory lane by telling the story of how her and Pun got together and detailed their first date. Along with their dramatic love story and her early pregnancy, she also talked about Pun’s rough family environment as a child and was abused by his mom and stepfather.
“After his mom left his dad, she met her new husband,” said Rios. “Yea, he was a war vet and he was on drugs. He introduced her to drugs. They both became addicts and the stepfather would go through his, you know, psycho changes and he would get abused.”
Rivers also reflected on Pun’s memory by sharing his most valued moments with his father. In a hilarious childhood story, Rivers remembered Pun strapping him (and his siblings) up with bulletproof vests and being surrounded by guns because of his father’s paranoia about Y2K. And that’s just one memory. Listen to the episode in full below.
