Suge Knight can’t catch a break! The former Death Row Records executive has been held in jail ever since he was arrested for running over two men in Compton, killing one of them. Initially, the surviving victim told the detectives it was Suge who ran them over, but he refused to identify his assailant in court. While Knight believed the lack of testimony would make it easier for the case to be dismissed, it looks like the judge is making sure Suge doesn’t get away with his crime. The judge residing over the people versus Suge Knight will not allow the murder case to be dismissed. Cle “Bone” Sloan, the surviving victim of the vehicular attack, changed his story from his original testimony at the scene of the crime. After the incident, Sloan had initially labeled Knight as the one responsible for severely injuring him and killing 55-year-old Terry Carter in front of a Compton burger stand.
During the preliminary hearing back in April, Sloan refused to properly identify Knight as his assailant. Knight’s attorney Thomas Mesereau called for the judge to reject Sloan’s testimony since he changed his story. However, Superior Court Judge Stephen A. Marcus could not thoroughly evaluate the witness’ credibility at a preliminary hearing. Earlier today, Marcus ruled that, even without Sloan’s testimony, the case will continue until a proper verdict is reached.
“The only person who had a motive was Suge Knight,” the judge said.
Marcus also noted that Sloan and Knight’s on-going beef created “bad blood between them for years.” The judge basically called the fight that led to the fatal confrontation another episode of the violent “soap opera” between both men. Aside from this case, Knight will also be dealing with another pending case against him dating back to last year when he and comedian Katt Williams were arrested for allegedly stealing a camera. The trial for that case is set for Sept. 17.
Knight will remain in jail since his request to reduce his $10 million-dollar bail was denied. Will Suge Knight really spend the rest of his days behind bars? Sound off in the comments!
