Celebrity doctor Gwen Korovin is finally breaking her silence about just what happened during a procedure that ultimately took the life of beloved comedian Joan Rivers. She claims she was unaware that selfies were being taking during the procedure and has filed legal document against claims in the wrongful death lawsuit. She denies any responsibility for Joan’s death. Hit the jump for more.
Dr Gwen Korovin, the ‘throat specialist to the stars’, claims that she was in fact at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic operating on Joan Rivers on August 28th despite not being authorized to be in the room.
She denies claims however that, she was taking selfies. In a statement released by the doctor she said, she ‘was unaware of any pictures being taken’ during the surgery. The statement added,
‘Gwen S Korovin MD is a highly experienced, board certified otolaryngologist. She maintains priveleges at one of the city’s most prestigious hospitals.She is respected and admired by her peers in the medical community and she is revered by her patients.’
Due to doctor patient confidentiality rules Korovin will not make any further comments about her practice or patients.
Dr Lawrence Cohen, Yorkville’s medical director, and the other doctor who was accused in this malpractice suit claimed Korovin ‘did not object to the defendant Cohen taking said photos’. He also said that he extended an invitation to Korovin to operate on Rivers and no one objected.
The malpractice suit was filed by Joan Rivers daughter Melissa and this seems like it will be a long road before anything is settled.
