After a week of controversial Supreme Court rulings in the United States, a high court in Oklahoma makes a controversial ruling as well. The court called for the removal of a statue on its capitol that depicts the Ten Commandments of the bible.
After same-sex marriage was made legal in all 50 states in the country by the US Supreme Court, an Oklahoma court has decided that the Ten Commandments will be removed from its state capitol grounds. Thats right, the commandments will be removed before South Carolina votes on whether or not to remove the confederate flag from its state house grounds.
It seems that this country is always at odds over something religious or what people see as moral or immoral. Ironically, the Oklahoma capitol allowed a Satanist group to apply to depict the “Baphomate” [a Satanic goat represenatation] on the grounds as well. Members from that group say they wanted to “complement and contrast” the Ten Commandments that were on display; however, neither will be on display now.
The group, however, sees the removal of the commandments as a win because they–like an Oklahoma Baptist Pastor–want the government to remain neutral on causes such as religion. What I find fascinating, though, is that the commandments will come down before the confederate flag in southern states such as South Carolina does. A flag that represents the south’s fight to retain slavery and pre-civil war ways.
