Scottie Pippen has been finding his name in the news lately. First was his run in with Kourtney Kardashian, who denied Pippen’s request to party with her. Now Pippen is putting himself in the headlines saying he was the first ever Lebron James! It’s not looking too good for Pippen these days.
Lebron James and Scottie Pippen have always been compared as players who could do it all on the basketball court. But while Pippen acknowledges the similarities, its never a good look to come out and compare yourself to the best player in the NBA right now, when you played second fiddle much of your career.
“I was LeBron James before LeBron James,” Pippen told Chris Haynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group. “It’s not even close.”
Well, all right then, Scottie.
Pippen, who helped Chicago to six NBA titles alongside Michael Jordan, did clarify that he finds James’ game to be representative of his own playing style—not that of his former teammate.
“They want to compare him to the greatest, whether it be Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, but he’s more closer to myself,” Pippen said. “It’s natural for folks to say that, but if you look at how he plays the game and how I played the game, you’ll see more similarities with us.”
Pippen still played at a very high level when Jordan retired to play baseball but never won a chip with the G.O.A.T., so its tough to say just how great Pippen ever was.
