Marc Gasol will become an unrestricted free agent this summer and though most teams believe he will re-sign with the Memphis Grizzlies, they’ll still take a crack at him. One team that reportedly has absolutely no chance, is the Los Angeles Lakers and it’s because of the deteriorating relationship between the team and Marc’s brother Pau Gasol.
Marc Gasol has no interest in the Lakers because of the uneasy last few years his brother spent with them, according to numerous people familiar with the situation.
Pau Gasol’s name was included in trade rumors during his last three seasons with the Lakers despite his effort on the court and his desire to remain with the team. Also both coaches Mike Brown and Mike D’Antoni didn’t properly utilize Gasol’s abilities and relagated him to the bench. Gasol eventually left and signed with the Chicago Bulls when he became a free agent.
Memphis is much more of a contender than the Lakers are so it’s already not an appealing destination but add in the way they treated his brother and they’re certainly crossed off the list.
The Lakers will still need a big man after passing up on drafting Jahlil Okafor to take guard DeAngelo Russell.
