Colorado has become a very popular state now that Marijuana is legal, but employers are not having it. Relax Colorado you can still get fired for marijuana. There are a dozen other states that have already legalized marijuana and a bunch of other states on the road to trying to make medical marijuana legal . Be careful in Colorado though, it may cost you your job.
The Supreme court of Colorado basically said Relax Colorado! Although Colorado law stated that it is considered discriminatory “for an employer to terminate the employment of any employee due to that employee’s engaging in any lawful activity off the premises of the employer during nonworking hours.” A fellow worker for Dish network was fired after a random Drug test. The unfortunate part is, he actually needed the Medical Marijuana he was prescribed and he is in fact in a wheelchair. He took this case to court where he did not win and he is now waiting a appeal.
They let people grow Marijuana, they passed the law to make it legal so why are they all of a sudden firing people or telling them they won’t be hired if Marijuana if found in their system. Sounds a little backwards to me especially when they say , even after work hours you can’t be caught smoking . Sad when you hear about this man who has obtained his medical marijuana liscence back in 2009 and is now getting fired from his job. Relax Colorado , it is not as good as it seems
