During game 5 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, LeBron James put up a triple-double of 40 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. The last person to ever put up a 40 point triple-double was Jerry West in 1969. But… despite all that, the Warriors beat the Cavaliers 104-91 taking a 3-2 series lead. Following the game, LeBron James did his usual post game presser and didn’t seem dejected at all. In fact, James seemed very confident and had a good reason why.
A reporter suggested that perhaps James was feeling more free because there’s less pressure due to the team being undermanned, referencing the deep 3s he made in the fourth quarter.
“Nah,” James responded. “I feel confident because I’m the best player in the world. It’s simple.”
And he is the best player in the world. Many of us have said it before but he will get scrutinized for saying it himself, especially after his team just lost a major game.
But there was nothing else he could do in game 5. Basketball is a team sport and right now he’s carrying a heavy load. Not even the best player in the world can beat the mighty Warriors by himself.
