The Oak Park High School in Southern California had a star-studded graduation ceremony this year. The graduating class of 2015 included Disney Channel Star Zendaya Coleman and Olympic Gold medalist Gabby Douglas. The star power doesn’t end there however. The commencement speaker for the ceremony was non-other than Bob Newheart. Hit the jump for more.
Both girls actually attended Oak Park Independent School, which gave them more freedom in their schedules for purposes of work, but they both attended the graduation ceremony where they were received with open arms by their fellow graduates.
Zendaya retweeted one fellow graduate who snapped a photo of her coming down the aisle, then she wrote “So I’m doing my graduation rehearsal and I don’t know anyone but they cheered when my name was called, thanks guys, ya’ll the real MVP’s.” Another member of her graduating class tweeted “Thanks for finally bringing some excitement in oak park. Sincerely – everyone.”
After receiving her diploma, Zendaya posted a tweet saying, “IM AN OFFICIAL GRADUATE YALL!!!!!!!!!” She then posted a heartfelt caption to accompany a photo of herself in her graduation gown. She wrote,
“Shout out, not just to all the 2015 grads but to the soon to be! Please remember knowledge is one of the most powerful gifts we have the privilege of receiving…don’t take that for granted. To every soon to be grad, know that you CAN do it! (if I can get through it then anyone can) It’s a long road, so many things will pose as obstacles in your way and at times the end seems further and further away, but please remember the importance of that beautiful mind you have and all the limitless powers you hold. All my love #sorryforgettingdeep.”
Gold Medal olympian Gabby Douglas also graduated from the Oak Park High School. She posted a photo of herself in her graduation gear with the caption,
“not gonna lie. it was tough to balance school and gym.. but i did it!” the gold medalist told her fans. “kno when u set ur mind to achieve something u can do it. anddddd yeas i’m at the airport. gotta get right back to the grind. love u guys.”
According to Douglas’ mom getting to graduation was a tough road for the gymnast. She even said that Gabby was doing homework while winning the gold medal in London. “It’s been so crazy just to even get the schoolwork done,” Hawkins said. Gabby is currently in training for another Olympics.
Bob Newheart, who starred in hilarious films like Elf spoke to the graduating class. He told them, “Keep your sense of humor. Follow your dream. I did and I’ve been lucky.”
