Once again Michael Sam is no longer a professional football player after walking away from his CFL team.

Sam, the first openly gay player to participate in the NFL, was never able to make it in the big league here so he took his talents north of the border. Apparently though something wasn’t right.

Mystery surrounding Michael Sam … as the Canadian Football League player has left training camp for personal reasons the day before his team’s first exhibition game.
Sam — who signed with the Montreal Alouettes back in May — asked the team for “special permission” to leave the camp and return home.
The team issued a statement saying, “With all due respect for Michael Sam, the nature of this decision will remain confidential.”
“The Montreal Alouettes fully respect Michael Sam’s decision and rally around him to offer him all time and support needed. The team has left the door open and Michael is welcome to come back whenever he feels ready.”
We reached out to Sam for comment — so far, no word back. I’m convinced this guy just doesn’t have the passion you need to succeed at the pro level. He seems to be more concerned with being a symbol for the gay community, which is good, but then you can’t continue to blame other issues for not making it on the field.
