Just last year Lebron James and Dwyane Wade were playing alongside each other in the NBA Finals as members of the Miami Heat. This year, James is in the Finals yet again but this time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his old buddy Wade has a new gig joining the ABC broadcast of the Finals. On Tuesday night James dropped 40 points as the Cavaliers beat the Warriors 96-91 and took a 2-1 series lead. Following the game, Wade did a great postgame interview with his old teammate.
Dwyane Wade said he’s see a different LeBron, a different focus that he hasn’t seen and he’s seen a lot considering the two played in four NBA Finals together and won two of them.
Wade asked LeBron if had or needed an extra chip on his shoulder since he’s playing against the league MVP (Stephen Curry), although he is in fact the greatest player in the game.
“I don’t think I needed it, I had so much motivation but I knew it was going to be long process”, James said. “I didn’t think we would get to this point right now but I was ready to lead if we got to this point.”
“I can’t say that I wasn’t upset about finishing third,” James said about finishing behind Stephen Curry and James Harden respectively in the MVP voting.
On the many shots he’s had to take, James said “117 shots is out of my character but I have no choice.”
Wade also asked LeBron to compare his run this Finals to Wade’s run in the 2006 NBA Finals. James gave it up to Wade on that one.
All in all it was a great interview and Wade definitely has a future in the broadcasting business once he hangs up his jersey.
