The New York Jets are coming off a 4-12 record at the bottom of the AFC East and their quarterback Geno Smith isn’t very popular right now after struggling last year.
“We bought the Porsche; we’ve given him the keys; he can’t crash it,” Colon said during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio last week. “Bottom line, he can’t crash it. We need him to be on top of his game. We’re doing everything we can as an offensive line to make him comfortable back there.”
According to the New York Daily News, Smith was greeted with boos when he was shown on the jumbotron as he attended the Yankees’ 6-2 win over the Angels in the Bronx. He offered a terse “no comment” when asked about Colon’s remarks during the seventh inning.
When asked if he felt any added pressure because of the remarks, the signal-caller just shook his head.
Smith will have a chance to redeem himself this upcoming season as the Jets added former Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall to help him out.
