A teenager from Washington jumped to her death after her father made a heart wrenching shame video that surfaced on the Internet. Izabel Laxamana was only 13 years-old.
Izabel Laxamana was from Tacoma, Washington and died after jumping from a highway overpass. Authorities believe the girl jumped because of bullying she received after her father posted a shaming video of her to YouTube. Days before her death, her father Jeff, punished the girl for an unspecified transgression. He cut off her hair and took a 15 second video which was then posted online.
In the clip you can hear Jeff saying, “The consequences of getting messed up?” Then he shows the long locks of hair lying on the ground. “Man, you lost all that beautiful hair. Was it worth it?” In a barely audible tone Laxamana responds, “No.”
Social media has placed the blame with Laxamana’s father however, authorities say that the video was never meant to be published and it seems that a third party had uploaded it. Police believe there is much more to this story.
Tacoma Public Information Officer Loretta Cool called the family’s method of discipline ‘misguided’ and said, “She was a 13-year-old that made some poor choices, meaning that she didn’t have to kill herself.”
Izabel was taken to a Seattle hospital, where she died on Saturday. Friends of the family are now raising money for funeral costs on a GoFundMe site.
