This hasn’t been a typical dominant LeBron James season. His big return to Cleveland started out slow and injury laden. After a two-week rest, James came back reenergized and a couple of trades helped make the Cavaliers the Eastern Conference champions. James nearly averaged a triple-double in Cleveland’s four-game sweep of Atlanta, putting up 30.1 points, 11 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game in the series. Going into the Finals matchup with the Warriors, James says he’s playing as well as he ever has.
From ESPN.com’s Dave McMenamin:
After racking up four MVPs and two championships through his first 11 years in the league, LeBron James has set some pretty lofty standards for himself to match as he continues his career.
Despite his impeccable past body of work, the 12-year veteran said Monday that he believes he is playing the best basketball of his career right now.
“I think if you put it all together, yeah,” James said. “If you put everything together as far as my mind, my body, my game. If you put everything in one bottle, this is probably the best I’ve been.”
Though players like J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova have been helpful, you still have to remember, LeBron James is taking the brunt of the work with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love (the other parts of the Big 3) injured. Still James has had better seasons but if the Cavaliers beat this incredible Warriors team to take the NBA championship then you have to consider it the best season of his career.
