When the New Orleans Pelicans fired Monty Williams a couple of weeks ago, freeing up their head coaching position, many candidates began salivating at the chance to coach a team with a budding like Anthony Davis fresh off his first playoff birth. Looks like Golden State Warriors assistant coach Alvin Gentry is getting the chance, as he is expected to be named the Pelicans next head coach.
Alvin Gentry sure seems like he’s having a good week. Since the Warriors are currently in the playoffs, Gentry officially will have to wait till the finals are over to sign on to be the Pelicans head coach but it is being reported that both parties have an agreement in place right now.
Gentry has head coaching experience in the past, as he was the head coach of the Phoenix Sun and helped lead them to the Western Conference finals when Steve Nash was preforming at MVP levels.
When Kerr was hired as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors he sought some experience to help on the bench and Gentry has left his fingerprints all over this Golden State Warriors team.
Gentry has experience with run-and-gun high power offenses and we may see the Pelicans play a new style of offense that can help the versatile Big man Anthony Davis expand his game and help him grow as a star in this league.
