Director Joss Whedon revealed that there was an alternate ending of Avengers: Age of Ultron filmed! To find out the alternate ending and where to find it, hit the jump!
On the Empire Podcast, Joss Whedon revealed that several scenes were filmed that had Quicksilver not only survive the bullets that hit him, but show up alongside his sister in the final scene. You know the scene were Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye and Thor all go their separate ways, while Captain America and Black Widow are preparing to train their replacements at the new Avengers base. The new Avengers being War Machine (Don Cheadle), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)
According to Whedon:
“We did actually shoot him in the last scene, in an outfit, with his sister. We also shot him, waking up, saying, ‘Ah, I didn’t really die from these 47 bullet wounds!’ Actually, we shot something else with that, but… maybe I’ll let you know about that later. But the intent was to learn this, and then you have to stand by it.”
Whedon also said he filmed the alternate ending so that, if Marvel wanted to use Quicksilver in future movies they could. Obviously, Marvel passed on that. He also revealed some other smaller details that are quite interesting according to Complex and Cosmic Book News:
“It was Whedon’s idea to have The Vision pick up Thor’s hammer, but he only brought it up as a joke.
He wanted Captain Marvel and Spider Man in the movie.
Grey Hulk was supposed to fight the Hulkbuster armor.
Whedon wanted to have Bruce Banner look up at the stars and ask “Where in the world am I not a threat?”, which would have alluded to Hulk leaving Earth.
Loki was supposed to be in the Thor dream sequence, but Marvel couldn’t get Tom Hiddleston, so they got Idris Elba for the scene instead.”
Okay so now I have to get a little nerdy. Usually characters that have super speed also have the ability to heal faster, just like The Flash. However, in Avengers: Age of Ultron they never said if Quicksilver’s speed enabled him to do this. All we ever saw him do was run fast, have quick reflexes, and have super strength. If he did have this ability, and they never showed or told us this previously, maybe… possibly the audience could have been confused as to why he was still alive. To me, this alternate ending could’ve worked. Hopefully, the alternate ending and other bonus features will available on the DVD and Blue Ray disc coming out. I don’t really buy DVD’s anymore but for this alternate ending I will make sure I am first in line.
