Today Ireland became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage with approval from 60% of voters saying “yes”! Tune in after the jump for more on the story.

Over 1.8 million Irish voters participated in the poll for legalization of same-sex marriage and 60% of those participants were in the Catholic nation. Yet the “no” vote was defeated by a big lead from same-sex marriage supporters.

A public service announcement made by RTE News made it official this morning tweeting: “Ireland’s same-sex marriage referendum has been passed”.
