Google robot cars has the green light and can now be tested on public roads.
Google has revealed there next phase for there self-driving cars. Google will be testing their cars on the roads around Mountain View, California. The small vehicles have only been tested on tracks but this upcoming summer it will be tested on the roads. If you see them on the road in Cali don’t worry there will be safety drivers in side to take over if needed. The Google cars will capped at 25mph during its test. The new prototypes will be have the same software as their existing fleet on Lexus RX450h SUV.
“We’re looking forward to learning how the community perceives and interacts with the vehicles, and to uncovering challenges that are unique to a fully self-driving vehicle—e.g., where it should stop if it can’t stop at its exact destination due to construction or congestion. In the coming years, we’d like to run small pilot programs with our prototypes to learn what people would like to do with vehicles like this.”- Chris Urmson, Director, Google Self-Driving Car Project
