Due to contract issues, tickets for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquaio fight weren’t available until about a week before the actual bout. Still there was a crazy demand for the highly anticipated fight and once the tickets were released, they almost instantly vanished. Now that the dust has settled, the official numbers are in and the fight set crazy new records.
According to ESPN boxing insider Dan Rafael and ESPN business reporter Darren Rovell:
1. They made a record breaking $72,198,500 from ticket sales.
2. They sold 16,219 tickets.
3. The average ticket value for the fight was $4,451 (also a record)
4. Of tickets sold: 1,226 were in the $10k category and 1,594 in the $7,500 category.
5. Only 46 tickets were complimentary and there were 9 unsold tickets
The previous gate record was set by Mayweather’s junior middleweight title unification victory against Canelo Alvarez in 2013. That fight, also at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, generated $20,003,150 from the sale of 16,146 tickets. Obviously the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight shattered that record completely.
