This is newly released video footage of an incident causing the death of David Levi Dehmann, which took place on April 21st, 2015. The video shows, 33 year old, David Dehmann using his hand to point at an officer. The officer viciously slaps his hand away; causing the drunken Dehmann to put his hands up defensively. At that point, the officer slams the man on the ground and he never gets up.
Before the video was released, the department issued a statement saying that the victim tried to hit the officer in the face. According to the officers who arrested Dehmann, he was combative from the beginning; banging on the glass in the car and spitting at the window. After the brutal take down, he was taken to a hospital where he later died.
After watching the video, I do see where Dehmann lifted his arms as if he wanted to fight, but it was only after he was hit by the officer! This could have been easily avoided if the cop showed some sort of restraint. We learn to keep our hands to ourselves in kindergarten. I feel like Police are no longer using discretion, or common sense. Every situation is not life threatening. Some are just looking for a confrontation, and cause things to escalate.
