The Kirkland/Alvarez fight definitely lived up to its expectations and the fight could not have happened at a better time. A week after the historic Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, a true slugfest went down in Houston, Texas and although it only lasted three rounds, it was definitely worth the watch.

During a time where many are losing faith in the sport of Boxing as it is becoming more of an entertainment spectacle than appreciation for the sport, Alvarez clearly saved the day and showed that there are still fighters out there who are willing to go toe-to-toe. With a round three knockout, Alvarez clearly left James Kirkland a little lost.

In an interview following the fight, James Kirkland says, “I didn’t know I was knocked out. I had him trapped and hurt in the corner in the first round but he escaped, I had him hurt in the second also…I hope to fight him again someday. I’m a warrior. I’ll be back,” and he showed nothing but respect to Alvarez. Alvarez must pack an insane punch because he clearly knocked some memory out of Kirkland; but this fight is probably something he does not want to remember anyway.

The fight’s promoter, 50 Cent and SMS Promotions, also show complete confidence in Kirkland and are sure that he will be back once he reunites with his original trainer who he has never lost a fight with–Ann Wolfe.
